Our Thoughts Think Thoughts …

Updated: Jul 5, 2023

“Did you know that our thoughts think thoughts? Or, that’s how it seems, as we go through a day with our mind going a gazillion miles a minute, gathering momentum like a freewheeling car on a San Francisco street. How many times have you realized you’re thinking about something that’s unproductive or makes you feel bad, and decided you wouldn’t think about it?

Yeah…it’s like standing in front of that brakeless car on its downhill slide, and expecting you can stop it and change its direction ... mid slide.

It’s easy to understand the car/momentum analogy, but why can’t we change our runaway thoughts more easily? After all, they aren’t 2,000 pounds of metal cocooned in fiberglass; they’re just electrical impulses, chemical flows—energy.

To ‘get it’, we need to understand the universal law of attraction. Most of us kinda, sorta, know that we live under universal laws, but understanding how they work, and actually applying them to our everyday lives takes some ‘know how’ and expertise.

And mastery of understanding the Universal Law of Attraction is a life skill that affects your happiness, your ease, your satisfaction. Everything in life is in relationship to something or someone else, so it affects all of your relationships—and very importantly, your relationship with yourself.

The law of attraction is often referenced in our language … “like attracts like”, “birds of a feather flock together” We have an innate resonance to that truism, and we see it played out in our daily lives. The Universal Law of Attraction is always responding to everything, and our thoughts are not the one exception in the universe! Within Nano seconds of thinking a thought, another LIKE it is attracted to it, and then another, and another, and another, and another, and another…on and on…and then you have a PATTERN of thoughts, as psychologists describe, and neuro scientists research and currently prove with our incredible technology.

By the way, we think, on average, 95,000 thoughts a day.

So, in practical terms, when you have a thought, it can quickly snowball to an avalanche. If it’s an uncomfortable or unwanted thought, you need ways to stop the snowball effect and think thoughts that are supportive and contribute to what you want actually to create in your day.

One way to do this is to GO GENERAL. Choose, in a general way, what you want Law of Attraction (LOA) to respond to.   For example: “Yes, I prefer this, to this.”

If you are in your wake state (awake, not sleeping), LOA is always responding.  So, in general terms, describe what you want and why you want it. If you try to figure out “how” it’s going to happen, the momentum of your thoughts will take you into fear and self-doubt and all the reasons it can’t happen.

If you want a pleasant day, write a short 2-3 sentences about what is a pleasant day for you: “I like it when the sun is shining, I meet smiling people, in fact I’m looking for smiles today! I’ll be easy about it and smile at everyone I meet.”

As you think in those terms each day, your days will begin to take on an easier, flowing quality.

So, appreciate yourself and the things in your life that are feeling good, be easy about it, keep it general, don’t be too specific. Choose in a general way what you want, and LOA will respond to it.

And remember, when you are trying new ways of doing things, or attempting to make a new habit, write a word or words (that will remind you of your intention for the day) on sticky notes and put them where you will see them.  The conscious level of your mind likes things the way they are…doesn’t feel comfortable with change….and will help you “forget” your new intentions, unless you keep reminding yourself!

Have fun with it, keep it light. As you understand and use your powerful thoughts in this co-creative process, your days and your life will change in positive and rewarding ways.”
